PIL supports efforts to end violence against children globally
German non-profit Kindernothilfe’s (KNH) program to end violence against children supports over 120 NGOs in Africa, Asia and Latin America, many working in hotspots with most vulnerable communities in countries with diminishing civil space. In this exciting study covering all of the regions of operation we worked with our long-standing partners Blomeyer & Sanz. We used many channels of inquiry - staff and partner surveys in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French helped us identify main trends in relation to the study questions. A wide-reaching interview program with staff and partners, and eight case studies focused on the work of specific KNH-supported NGOs in the three regions, helped us draw a nuanced picture of the challenges organisations and activists fighting for children’s rights face globally. The study team in the course of the over a year-long assignment learned considerably about the global strategies for ending violence against children, not least the Seven INSPIRE Strategies for Ending Violence Against Children.
In the ethos of participatory engagement that lies at the heart of how KNH works with partner organisations and they work with communities and affected children, the study team employed a participatory approach to both our approach and results. We co-created recommendations for KNH’s Ending Violence Against Children program in over a dozen workshops involving partner organisations and KNH’s staff, and in the summer of 2023 were in the process of supporting dissemination of study findings for regional KNH teams working in four continents.
