Background

Vaidotas, an experienced educator and professional, holds a Bachelor's degree in History and a Master's degree in Political Science, focusing on Eastern Europe and Russia, complemented by qualifications in Pedagogy and Economics. Primarily, he teaches History and Economics to senior students as part of the International Baccalaureate and Cambridge Assessment A Levels program for the last 6 years. He is also a team leader examiner for Cambridge Assessment International Education and acts as the national coordinator for Lithuania for the International and Baltic Sea Region Model European Parliament, where he selects and trains youth for conferences. Vaidotas contributes as an expert for the Open Society Foundations in Lithuania, driving Transition dialogue and project implementation across Central and Eastern Europe. His key areas of interest and expertise span education projects, concept-based teaching and learning, curriculum design, assessment methods, promoting civic mindedness, educator training, and education-related project management.

impact

Vaidotas' professional journey encompasses a diverse range of roles in the field of education. He was chosen to work with the global initiative, Teach for All, as a citizenship education teacher in a school serving the Russian national community. This role was important in facilitating integration and addressing the issue of information warfare susceptibility, which this community faces in Eastern and Central Europe. Additionally, Vaidotas participated in the notable national project, Mission Siberia 2016. The expedition to former deportees' sites in northern Siberia inspired him to share these experiences across Lithuania, fostering civic mindedness, particularly among the younger generation.

Vaidotas has also contributed to curriculum development, creating an innovative phenomena-based program for a private school that integrates national curriculum standards with forward-thinking teaching methods. His expertise has been recognized by regional academic institutions, such as Vilnius University, and he has worked on the IWitness project managed by the University of Southern California, making Holocaust testimonies available to educators and students. Moreover, he has managed (and continues to do so) projects for the European Parliament aimed at schools, including creating monthly newsletters, conducting educator training, and assessing school performance. Despite these varied roles, Vaidotas takes the most pride in his ongoing work as a homeroom teacher since 2017, looking forward to his students' imminent graduation and their future success. The latter is, according to him, the most meaningful impact of all.
