Working with our partners at Blomeyer & Sanz in 2022-23, PIL's Elma Paulauskaitė, Ksenija Paksina and Sabrina Persiano contributed to a global study on German non-profit Kindernothilfe’s (KNH) efforts to end violence against children. KNH’s work in this area supports over 120 NGOs in Africa, Asia and Latin America, many working in hotspots with most vulnerable communities in countries with diminishing civil space. A wide-reaching interview program with staff and partners, and eight case studies focused on the work of specific KNH-supported NGOs in the three regions, helped us draw a nuanced picture of the challenges organisations and activists fighting for children’s rights face globally. The study team in the course of the over a year-long assignment learned considerably about the global strategies for ending violence against children, not least the Seven INSPIRE Strategies for Ending Violence Against Children. In the ethos of participatory engagement that lies at the heart of how KNH works with partner organisations and they work with communities and affected children, the study team employed a participatory approach to both our approach and results. We co-created recommendations for KNH’s Ending Violence Against Children Programme in over 10 workshops involving partner organisations and KNH’s staff, and are in the process of supporting dissemination of study findings for regional teams in four continents.
